Emoticons, or smileys, are pretty much used everywhere in text now. It’s another way of showing expression in a text or instant message. was posted to the Carnegie Mellon University computer science general board on the 19th of September 1982 by a man named Scott Fahlman. Within months it had spread to the ARPANET and Usenet. Later on they would go on to have graphical representation, like what’s commonly seen on instant messengers and cell phones. They are animated now and some can even talk.
