Special Emoticons-Making Special Symbols

Making Special Symbols

At first it was a teen thing, lots of youngsters chatting on the net, using emoticons and symbols instead of words. Then they started using short cuts and inventing new terms and it caught on like fire. Now we know these symbols and texts are here to stay, everyone uses them, they’re fun and creative – so why not make your own?

Here are a few tips to creating symbols that you may want to incorporate in your free website templates design:

Creating a Heart Symbol:

Make sure you’re in coding mode and not WYSIWYG.

Type: & hearts;

Save your file and reopen it in your browser to make sure it worked. You should see a heart. You could simply copy and paste the heart from your screen to the editor but that is not always a reliable method. If you’re using a WYSIWYG-only editor you can copy and paste the heart in WYSIWYG mode and it will be converted to html by the editor.

Creating a diamond symbol:

Save as before and type: & diams;

Working with spades:

& spades;

Creating Arrows:

& larr; – creates an arrow pointing left.

&  rarr; – make a right pointing arrow.

& uarr; – arrow will point upwards.

& darr; – downwards pointing arrow

Creating Musical Symbols:

Once again, make sure you’re not in the WYSIWGY mode, unless you’re using an only WYSIWGY editor. Here are the codes:

& #9833; – quarter note
& #9834; – eighth note
& #9836; – two eighth notes
& #9837; – flat
& #9839; – sharp

Making Male/Female Symbols

& #9794; – for the male symbol
& #9792; – for the female symbol

Html is really easy to learn, and fun to play with. This is just a small taste, but to make the best of it you should really stay open and receptive to learning new tags and new methods. The webmonkey website is a great resource for those of you interested in really studying html and getting the hang of things.

Good luck.
